So this is like a real life question. I got a ticket for going 44mph in a 40. From a stop the officer said i got going 44mph in 375 feet. i was just wondering if its possible to find out my acceleration and the time it took for me to travel this distance to see if its a resonable accusation because i do not think i was speeding.

Solution

speed is = 44 mph

distance covered = 375 feet

let\'s convert the distance in feet inot miles

1 feet = 0.000189394 miles

so 375 feet = 375 * 0.000189394 = 0.07102275 miles

now the time taken to cover 0.07102275 miles at a speed of 44 mph

time = distance/speed = 0.07102275/44 = 0.00161415 hours

time = 0.00161415 * 60 * 60 = 5.81094 seconds

so it took us 5.81094 seconds to cover 375 feet while going at 44 mph.

now for the accleration we\'ll use

accleration = velocity/time = 44 mph /0.00161415 hrs

accleration = 44/0.00161415 = 27258.93 miles/hour^2

So this is like a real life question. I got a ticket for going 44mph in a 40. From a stop the officer said i got going 44mph in 375 feet. i was just wondering i
