Internet connection problems are really frustrating. Rather than pressing F5 or refresh the page multiple times ,there are some ways to troubleshoot the problem and identify the cause.

Ping :

One of the first thing to try after lossing internet connection is the ping command.Open cmd window in your computer and run the command like ping google.com or any of the site want.

This will sends several packets to the address you specify. The web server will respond to the each packet it receives.if there is any packet loss then it will indicate there is a network problem.Sometimes webserver take much time to respond to some of other packets, this can also represents a network problem.

Problem with a Specific wedsite:

Sometimes network is connected properly but site is not opened. This problem is not with the network , witn the site. To check whether the website is working properly or not by using the tool Down For Everyone Or Just For Me this tool connect to websites and determine if they are actually down or not. Ping is also used for this type of problems.

Modem & Router Problems:

If having problem with a variety of websites , this may be caused by your modem or router. Carefully observe the router. If green lights are flashing on it. This shows normal that is network connection is fine. If orenge light blinking on it , shows a network problem. This is same for modems also.

If this happens try to unplugging them and plugging it back just like restarting computer. Still this problem occur, try to perform factory reset on router .

DNS server problem :

When you try to access a particular website, computer contact its DNS server and asks for that particular website IP address. The default DNS servers your network uses are provided by ISP and sometimes they cause problems also. At this time try to access a website by its IP address directly , which bypasses the DNS Server. For example 74.125.224.72 is the googles IP address. Type it in web browsers address bar to visit google. If it works then conculd that there is a problem with DNS server. To fix this use third party DNS servers like OpneDNS or Google Public DNS or contact your Internet service provider.
