An electron and a proton are positioned as shown in the figu

An electron and a proton are positioned as shown in the figure to the right. What is the magnitude and direction of the electric force on the electron caused by the proton?

Solution

Here ,

for the electric force on the electron

magnitude of electric force = k * e^2/d^2

magnitude of electric force = 9 *10^9 * (1.602 *10^-19)^2/((4 *10^-9)^2 + (5 *10^-9)^2)

magnitude of electric force = 5.633 *10^-12 N

the magnitude of electric force is 5.633 *10^-12 N

Now , for the direction of force on electron

direction of force on electron = - arctan(4/5)

direction of force on electron = -38.7 degree

the direction of force on electron is -38.7 degree

An electron and a proton are positioned as shown in the figure to the right. What is the magnitude and direction of the electric force on the electron caused b
