Answer-American Labor of Federation was established as a powerful power in the union with the vision to not only secure better working hours, wages, and working conditions of its members but also to encourage respect in the eye of nation as the whole. It was formed in the year 1991 with alliance of the craft unions that were dissatisfied with the national labor associations (Knights of labor). The AFL wad built on three basic principles i.e. volunteerism, pure and simple unionisms, and exclusivity (Kirsten, 2006). The AFL called for legal incorporation for trade and labor union; banning of the child labor; apprenticeship laws; creating national labor for bureau; protective tariff for the American industry; etc. This was achieved through promoting harmony among the craft union. Further, job standards and work rules were important to AFL’s vision of fostering better living standards to skilled as well as unskilled workers by adhering to job standards i.e. eight hour day work, safe working conditions, unions wage scales, and agreement for collective bargaining. The objective to achieve industrial peace as well as democracy; and social justice can only be achieved through adequate working conditions and job rules.
