Solution
Driving while talking on a cell phone :
Almost all countries, including India, have banned the use of cell phones while driving and the police levy fines, but drivers continue to use cell phones for talking and texting messages while driving.
Dangerous trend :-
Cell phones have become an integral part of life for most people, but talking or texting over phones while driving is a dangerous trend. It involves physical and mental action that overlaps with driving skills, which also involve physical and mental activity. The simultaneous activity affects the driver\'s cognitive skills and leads to a loss of control over the vehicle. In most of such accidents, drivers do not focus on the road ahead as they speak or text on their phone. “They lose track of the surroundings, including traffic signals, junctions, dividers and vehicles approaching from the opposite side, or people walking on the road, and this leads to accidents.
Texting while driving :
More dangerous thing is texting while driving, Currently there is no national ban on texting or using a wireless phone while driving, but a number of states have passed laws banning texting or wireless phones or requiring hands-free use of wireless phones while driving.
Necessary steps to be taken:
Give clear instructions – Give new drivers simple, clear instructions not to use their wireless devices while driving. Before new drivers get their licenses, discuss the fact that taking their eyes off the road – even for a few seconds could cost someone injury or even death.
Lead by example – No one should text and drive. Be an example for others and if you need to text or talk on the phon1e, pull over to a safe place. Set rules for yourself and your household regarding distracted driving.
Become informed and be active –Tell family, friends and organizations to which you belong about the importance of driving without distractions. Take information to your kids’ schools and ask that it be shared with students and parents.
Do the manufacturers of the cell phones face any liability for the use of their product while driving : No, not required according to me, but I can suggest \'\'Cellular telephone manufacturers should be required by law to build into all phones features that limit or disable the driver’s phone when the vehicle is in motion. Variations in the limitations or disabling features, such as the “triggering” speed of the vehicle, usage when making “hands-free,” “docked” calls, or emergency calls, and allowances for a passenger to use a phone can be designed in. Existing app technologies now have all of these; they can easily be programmed into any mobile telephone’s chemistry. Technology also exists to prevent users from disabling these features.
Unfortunately, the manufacturers have no incentive to install such technology. There would be a cost, and probable opposition to passing that cost on to consumers. If we are all to be protected from the dangers that attach to texting while driving, the manufacturers must be forced to make the required changes. By example, laws were passed forcing the railroads to install safety gates when their new technology resulted in accidents where the train-tracks crossed the roads.
Many states have enacted laws prohibiting the use of cell phones and PDA\'s while driving, does this infringe on your rights: Defintely not in my opinion.
