If a man has breast cancer and takes an estrogen antagonist
If a man has breast cancer and takes an estrogen antagonist (blocking estrogen from binding or causing a cellular response), what would happen to his testosterone levels? Explain why the testicular production of testosterone would increase or decrease in response to the estrogen antgonist.
Solution
High estrogen has been found to suppress testosterone production by suppressing the release of luteinizing hormone; from the pituitary the master gland. Hence if a man has breast cancer and takes an estrogen antagonist he will have increased testosterone production.
