How was growth of Gram-positive bacteria inhibited during incubation?

Solution

Answer

The growth of gram positive bacteria can be inhibited during incubation in following ways =

antibiotics acts in two

1] Some are bacteriocidal= that is capable of killing bacteria

2] some are bacteriostatic =only inhibit the growth of bacteria

the following bacteriostatic drugs are used for inhibition of growth of bacteria are

1] Chloramphenicol= binds to 50S ribosome subunit & blocks peptide bond formation through inhibition of peptidyl transferase

2] Erythromycin =binds 50S ribosomal subunit & inhibit peptide chain elongation

3] Sulphonamides = Acts as competative inhibitors of enzyme dihydropteroate synthase .it is an enzyme involved in folate synthesis

4] Tetracyclins = binds to 30 S ribosome of bacteria & interfere with aminoacyl-tRNA binding
