Answer: In a small network , where there are lesser no. of users or devices, a hub can easily scope with the network traffic and would be cheaper option for connecting devices on network.But,when the network gets larger i.e more than 50 ,using switch is an better option then to cut the un-necessary traffic.Switches and hubs are often used in the same network; the hubs extend the network by providing more ports, and the switches divide the network into smaller, less congested sections. As there are restrictions on the number of hubs that can be connected together to add more users to a network, switches can be used in such situations to extend the number of hubs.

What happens in a collision in Ethernet?

Answer:In a Ethernet,a collision is result of two devices on the same Ethernet network try to transmit data exactly at the same time.The network detects \'collison\' of the two transmitted packets and discard them both .Each device then waits a random amount of time and retries until successful in getting the transmission sent.

For example, if we have a database that has three TEs (TE1, TE2, TE3) and two SMs (SM1 and SM2). It’s possible for the database to partition in to two groups due to a network failure:

Group 1:TE1,TE2,TE3

Group 2:SM1,SM2

Answer:If all of the nodes are on the same subnet, then broadcast becomes a viable solution. All nodes on the subnet will see all traffic. There is no TCP-like connection state maintained. Broadcast is a layer 2 feature in the Ethernet protocol, and also a layer 3 feature in IPv4.
