The figure depicts a yo-yo acted on by constant horizontal forces F1 = 30.0 N to the right and F2 to the left. The forces are applied, respectively, at distances 2R and R from the yo-yo\'s central axis, i.e. the larger circle has two times the radius of the smaller circle. It is observed that the yo-yo rolls without slipping on a horizontal table with constant velocity to the right.

Find the magnitude and direction of the force of static friction exerted by the surface of the table on the yo-yo.

Find the magnitude and direction of the force of static friction exerted by the surface of the table on the yo-yo.

Solution

it rolls with constat velocity without slipping,

SO, torque = 0 and acc. = 0

torqe = 2R x F1 - R x F2 =0

2F1 = F2

F2 = 30*2 = 60 N

Fnet on yo-yo ,

Fnet = ma = F1 + f - F2 = 0

f = F2 - F1 = 60 - 30 = 30 N towards right
