A laser emits a narrow beam of light The radius of the beam

A laser emits a narrow beam of light. The radius of the beam is 2.2 mm, and the power is 4.6 mW. What is the intensity of the laser beam?

Solution

Intensity = Power per unit Area
= Power / Area of radius of a circle
= P / pi*r^2.
= 0.0046 W / pi*(2.2x10^-3)^2
= 0.0046 W / 1.51*10^-5
= 304.63 W/m^2
