A stockroom worker pushes a box with mass 11.4 kg on a horizontal surface with a constant speed of 3.20 m/s. The coeflficient of kinetic friction between the box and the surface is 0.17 What horizontal force must the worker apply to maintain the motion? Express your answer with the appropriate units F= 19 N Previous Answers Correct Part B If the force calculated in the previous part is removed, how far does the box slide before coming to rest? Express your answer with the appropriate units. Value Units

Solution

Part B) Given, v = 3.2 m/s , m = 11.4 kg , = 0.17

If the force is removed ,

Let l be the distance travelled,

Using energy conservation method,

(1/2)*m*v^2 = *mg*l

(1/2)*11.4*3.2^2 = 0.17*11.4*9.8*l

l = 58.368/18.9924

l = 3.073 m

Thus , distance travelled = 3.073 m
