With explanation please
Polarized light of intensity 1.0 times 10^3 W/m^2 travels in the direction. The polarization direction of the incident light is plusminus y. The light is incident on two polarizers. The first polarizer light reaches has its transmission axis oriented in the +z direction and the second polarizer has its axis oriented in the y + z direction. Compute the intensity of the light transmitted through both polarizers. (a) 0 (b) 280 W/m^2 (c) 530 W/m62 (d) 720 W/m^2 (e) Toby

Solution

From the Malus law

I = Io cos^2 thteta

from the first polarizer

I1 = Io/2

= 1000/2

= 500 W/m^2

I2 = I1 cos ^2 theta

= 500 cos^2 90

= 0

option A is correct answer
