The picture shows a battery connected to two cylindrical wires in parallel. Both wires are made out of the same material and are of the same length, but the diameter of wire A is twice the diameter of wire B.

Select True or False for each of the following statements. True The resistance of wire A is four times larger than the resistance of wire B. Incorrect. Tries 1/1 Previous Tries The power dissipated in wire A is four times the power dissipated in wire B. Submit Answer Tries 0/1

Solution

here,

ATQ, dia of wire A = 2 dia of B
Above suggest the cross-sectional area of A is 4 times that of B, which means the resistance of A is 1/4 that of B.

If B is 16 Ohms, A will be 4 Ohms, equivalent resistance will be 16*4/(16+4) = 3.2 ohms

from ohms Law,
V = IR , (Assuming 1A of flow through each of them)

Volatge drop across each of them,
V = 3.2 * 1 = 3.2 V ( remain same in parallel)

Power across A = I^2 * R = 1 * 4 = 4 Watts

Power across B = I^2 * R = 1 * 16 = 16 Watts

Part a:
Flase

Part B:
True
