At a certain time a particle had a speed of 20 m/s in the positive x direction, and 3.0 s later its speed was 31 m/s in the opposite direction. What is the average acceleration of the particle during this 3.0 s interval? magnitude m/s^2 direction

Solution

average acceleration = (Vf - Vi) / delT

Average acceleration = -31-20 / 3

Avg. Acceleration = -51 / 3 = -17 m/s^2

Direction = in the -x direction
