The density of an aqueous solution of HCl that is 1800 perce

The density of an aqueous solution of HCl that is 18.00 percent byweight is 1.0878. Calculate the molarity (M) of this solution.
You need to assume that you have a specific volume of thesolution or a specific mass of solution. You may make eitherassumption.
You need to assume that you have a specific volume of thesolution or a specific mass of solution. You may make eitherassumption.

Solution

Molarity of the solution , M = ( 10* density * Wt . %of solute ) / Molar mass of the solute
                                         = ( 10 * 1.0878 * 18 ) / 36.5      Molar mass of HCl = 1 + 35.5 = 36.5 g
                                         = 5.3645 M
                                         OR
consider 1 L of the solution
Wt . of the HCl in 1 L = 1000 mL * density * strength
                                   =1000 * 1.0878 * (18/ 100 )
                                  = 195.804 g
We know that Molarity , M = ( mass / Molar mass ) /Volume of solution in L
                                          = ( 195.804 / 36.5 )/ 1 L
                                          = 5.3645 M
We know that Molarity , M = ( mass / Molar mass ) /Volume of solution in L
                                          = ( 195.804 / 36.5 )/ 1 L
                                          = 5.3645 M
