Would simply adding a pH indicator like phenol red to a gene

Would simply adding a pH indicator like phenol red to a general-purpose medium, such as nutrient agar, result in a medium that is selective, differential, both, or neither? Why or why not?

Blood agar and chocolate agar are commonly-used media in many clinical and research laboratories. Why do you think they are not inculded in lab kits

Solution

Adding phenol red to a general purpose medium result in differential media beause it will allow for the isolation and differenciation of two organisms having metabolic products showing different colour in acidic and basic media as phenol red has different colour in acidic and basic media.

Adding phenol red to a general purpose medium cannot result in selective media because phenol red will not affect the growth of any organism, it is simply an indicator. T be the selective, media should contain a particular material which affect the growth of a particular organism.

Blood agar and chocolate agar may contain components of animal origin and it is considered as highly infectious. only trained or person with adequate knowledge should use this. Therefore these agar are not provided in lab kits.
