Hypocalcemia low Ca levels in the blood can result in improp

Hypocalcemia (low Ca levels in the blood) can result in improper or impaired smooth and cardiac muscle contractions. However, skeletal muscle is usually not effected until the Hypocalcemia becomes extensive for long periods of time. 8. a. Why would smooth and cardiac muscle be affected but not skeletal muscle?

Solution

Skeletal muscles store their own Ca+2, which they need for contraction, within organelles called sarcoplasmic reticulum and hence, are not affected by low blood calcium.
