Inflation. A simple equation to relate the scale size of the universe today to the scale size of the universe at a previous time in the history of the universe is 1 + z = atoday/athen where athen is the scale size at the time in the past, atoday = 1 is the assumed scale size today, and z is the redshift. Using the redshift value of 1100 for a time just after the big bang when the universe was a hot gas, how many times has the universe since expanded?

____________ times.

Did inflation occur before or after the time associated with this redshift value?

____________ .

.

Solution

As given,

1+z=a today/a then ......(1)

Where,

a today=scale size of the universe now

a then= scale size of the universe at previous

z=redshift value

In the question given that ,

a today=1,z=1100.........(2)

Putting the values of eqn(2) in eqn (1),

1+1100=1/a then

=>a then=1/1101

=>a then=0.00090826

So ,a today/a then=1101

So the universe has expanded 1101 times.

As we have seen the calculation we have not noticed any error as remarkable so no inflation occurred after the formation of earth in red shift value.
