14 An infinite sheet of charge has a charge density 012 Cm2

14. An infinite sheet of charge has a charge density = 0.12 C/m2. How far apart are the equipotential surfaces whose potentials differ by 48 V?

Solution

electric field at ad point r from infinite sheet E = sigma/(2*e0)

electric potential V = -integration (Edx) = -E*x = -sigma*x1/(2*e0)

at point 1

v1 = -sigma*x1/(2*e0)

v2 = -sigma*x2/(2*e0)

v1 - v2 = sigma*(x2-x1)/(2*e0)

48 = 0.12*10^-6*(x2-x1)/(2*8.84*10^-12)

x2 = 0.00702 m = 0.7 cm <<<<-----------ANSWER
