Find the area of the region enclosed by the curves y2 - 3x = 1 and x - y = 1. The area of the region enclosed by the curves is (Simplify your answer.)

Solution

to find the area first we need to find the points of intersection
they are determined by
sqrt(3x+1)=x-1
we get solution as
x=0,x=5
so we integrate to find the area
area=-1/30(1-x-(3x+1))dx + 05(-1+x+(3x+1))dx

=65/3
