Find the solution of the system of equations If the system h
Find the solution of the system of equations. (If the system has no solution, say that it is inconsistent by entering NONE for each answer. If the system is dependent, enter a general solution in terms of x.) 5 x + 4 y = 2 - x - 4/5 y= -2/5.
Need help. I\'m confused on what they mean by a general solution. If the system is deoendent. I\'m positive this one is dependent and not inconsistent.
Solution
5x +4y = 2-----(1)
-x -4y/5 = -2/5 ----(2)
Mulitplying equation by -5 :
5x +4y = 2 we get equation 1
So, both the equations are same.There would be infinite solutions
We can express 4y = 2-5x
y = 1/2 -5x/2 ( General solution)
Since there can be different values of x and we can get different values of y.
If a consistent system has an infinite number of solutions, it is dependent . When you graph the equations, both equations represent the same line.
