hi
Azah aziz graduated from from UTU in june 2004, and after severnal job decident to do what she really always planned to do - go into business with her father, Dr. Aziz Buang Dr.Aziz Buang opened his first laundromat in 1990 & his second in 1992. The main attraction to him of these coin laundary businesses was that they we capital - rather than labor - intensive. Thus, one the investment in machinery was made, the stores could be run with just one unskilled attendant and none of the labor problems one normally expects from being in the retail service business. The attractiveness of operating with virtually no skilled labor notwithstanding, Dr.Aziz Buang had decided by 1996 to expand the services in each of his stores to include the dry cleaning and pressing of clothes. He embarked, in other words, on a strategy of related diversification, by adding new services that were related to and consistent with his existing coin laundary activities. He added these in part because he wanted to better utilize the unused space in the rather large stores he currently had under lease and partly because he was, as he put it, \"tired of sending out the dry cleaning and pressing work that came in from our coin laundary clients to a dry cleaner 15 km away, who then took most of what should have been our profits\". To reflect the new expanded line of services he renamed each of his 2 stores Aziz Cleaning Centres and was sufficiently satisfied with their performance to open 4 more of the same type of stores over the next 5 years. Each store had its own on - site manager and, on average, about 7 employees and annual revenues of about RM400,000. It was the six store chain of cleaning centres that Azaz Aziz joined upon graduating from U.T.M. Her understanding with her father was that she would serve as a troubleshooter/consultant with the aim of both learning the business and \'bringing to it modern management concepts and techniques for solving the business\'s problems and fascilitating its growth Questions What sorts of HR problems do you think Aziz Cleaning will have to grapple withWhat would you do first if you were Azaz Aziz?Solution
1. Under the present structure, each store has one site manager and on an average 7 employees. There is no formal organizational structure. The HR problems that they can face is:
2. I were Azaz Aziz, i would see to it that Aziz cleaning has a proper HR department. This department will look after the company\'s most important resource - its human resource. The HR department will ensure that people with the right skills are hired for the job. There should be proper implementation of HR policies from the recruitment of an employee to his appraisals to his exit interview when he quits the job. This will help Aziz cleaning in future when they increase the scale beyond the current size. Otherwise the entire functioning of the company will become a grid lock.
