During micturition activated cholinergic muscarinic (M3 and M2) receptors cause contraction of the detusor muscle and cGMP receptors cause relaxation of the internal spinchter.

During filling phase of micturition smooth muscles (detrusor muscles) of the bladder are relaxed under the influence of sympathetic nerves of autonomous nerves system and when the bladder is filled responses will be sent to cerbral cortex in adults and the parasympathetic nerves S2,S3,S4 cause contraction of smooth muscles of the bladder and relaxation of the sphincter causing the passage of urine.
