when large amount of liquid is required to pump then may not be possible to deliver required amount of liquid with single pump, in that case we will use the multiple pumps in parallel.

suppose say Q1, Q2, Q3........ are discharges of pupmps in parallel then the resultent discharge is Q1+Q2+Q3+.......

so if the pumps in parallel then the load on each pumps is less as compared with single pump system.

in parallel system we can reduse the size of pump as comapred with single pump system.

parallel system saves the electric power consumption as compared to the single pump system.
