Refer to the diagram An ideal battery is connected to four r
Refer to the diagram. An ideal battery is connected to four resistors and one capacitor, with the switch initially open, as shown. Here are the known values: R_rR_vR_rC Now the switch is closed. Find the following, expressed using only known values. Find the maximum charge that will be stored on the capacitor. Suppose the switch has been closed for a long time; now it is re-opened. Find the power being produced in R_4 at the moment when the energy stored on the capacitor is at 3/4 of its maximum value.
Solution
When switch is open the resistors R1 and R2 are in series.
RT=R1*R2/(R1+R2)
Voltage across R2= v2=E.R2/(R1+R2)
When switch is closed the capacitor starts charging.
The maximum charge will be stored in the capacitor(q) =C*V2
Where v2 is the voltage across R2.
If the switch has been closed for long time then maximum charge will deposited on the capacitor and it becomes open circuit
