Two closed chambers A and B containing two gases are connected by a water manometer.

Part A

If the gage pressure of chamber A is 10 mm of mercury vacuum and the height difference of the water columns is 25 cm , determine the gage pressure in tank B if water=990kg/m3 and Hg=13,590Kg/m3.

Solution

PA =10 mmHg

1 mmHg =0.1333224 kPa

PA=1.333224 Kpa

Since

PA-pwatergh =PB-pHggh

=>1.333224*103-990*9.8*0.25 =PB-13590*9.8*0.25

PB=32,203 Pascals or 32.2 kPa
