Please help.

1.What is the random sampling distribution of the mean?

2. The standard error of the mean is always smaller than the standard deviation of the population from which the random sampling distribution was constructed. Explain why this is so.

Because you find the standard error of the mean by dviding the standard deviation with the sqaure of the mean?

Solution

1.

The random sampling distribution of the mean is the list of all possible mean outcomes, with their corresponding means and probability of the said means.

2.

It is so because the standard error is obtained using a sample, which gets to the mean closer. Thus, the standard error of the mean is reduced by the sample size.

The population standard deviation is calculated using individual scores, which is independent from each other. Thus, they can get away more the from the mean, hence, greater standard deviation.

By this logic, the equation of the standard error is

sX = s / sqrt(N)
