Solution

exercise 26.13

R1=4 ohm

R2=12 ohm

R3=6 ohm

R4=3 ohm

A) now R1 and R2 are in parallel so R12=12*4/16 = 3 ohm

similarly R34 = 6*3/9 =2 ohm

R12 and R34 are in series . so R1234=3+2 = 5 ohm

B) Current through battery = 60/5 = 12 A

Current through R34 = 12 A.

Current through R3 and R4 would inversely proportional to resistor.

I3+I4=12

I3/I4=R4/R3 =1/2

solving I4=8A

C)I3=12-I4 = 4A

D) I1+I2=12

I1/I2=R2/R1

I1/I2=3

solving I2=3 A.

E) I1+I2=12 so I1 = 12-3 = 9A
