Combination is Parallel if all the positive ends of resistors are connected to the negative end of battery and all the negative ends of resistors are connected to the positive end of battery.

Combination is series if resistor\'s some ends are connected with each other.

R2 and R3 are in series and

let Req is equivalent resistance of R2 and R3

Req = R2 + R3,

then

R1 and Req are in parallel
