HW Help: Give 3 separate analogies for the following: DNA replication, RNA transcription, and protein synthesis. For example: Comparing a cell to a factory. 3-5 sentences for each analogy please!

Solution

Answer:

3 separate analogies for DNA replication, RNA transcription and Protein translation have been given below:

1. Primers:

DNA replication:

The primer is an universal recruiter, for all DNA polymerases, bringing them to the DNA template. There must be both strands in place for a DNA polymerase to stop by. Moreover, the catalytic activity of all the polymerases requires a preexistent 3\' end on the growing strand. You must have a 3\' free end near a template, for a DNA polymerase to act.

RNA transcription:

In contrast, RNA polymerases are recruited to the template by DNA-binding proteins, such as transcription factors, meaning there is no need for primers.

Protein translation:

Translation is initiated by an aminoacyl tRNA and doesnot require primers.

2. Template molecule:

DNA replication:

The template for DNA replication is double helical DNA and replication takes place in both strands of the DNA.

RNA transcription:

Transcription takes place in only one of the strands called the template strand.

Protein synthesis:

Protein synthesis takes place on the mRNA transcript with the help of ribosome. The mRNA contains the codons and the corresponding tRNA carries the anticodons.

3. Building blocks:

DNA replication:

The buliding blocks in DNA replication are deoxyribonuclotides. Each deoxyribonucleotide comprises three parts: a nitrogenous base, a deoxyribose sugar, and one phosphate group.

RNA transcription:

The building blocks are ribonucleotides.

Protein synthesis:

The building blocks during translation are amino acids.
