Linux is a open source software the open source software is nothing but the software that is available for everyone that means the user can see, change or modify the source code. The source code is the most important part of the software that can be modified for our requirements if it is a open source. Whereas the proprietary software means the administrator or the person who has created the software is responsible for the source code to change no one is authorized to change the source code. The open source source doesnot require licence and whereas proprietary require licence. Many people uses open source software rather than proprietary software because the open source is free of cost and the programmers can control the software according to their requirements by small enhancements
