At the start of the exercise, which solution (A or B) was hypertonic compared to that other which had the higher concentration of solutes) Which solution gained water in the course of the exercise (A or B)? the results of these tests to answer the following questions. Which of the substances (starch, chloride ions, sulfate ions, glucose, albumin, and water) were able to pass through the membrane (in either direction)? Which substance(s) moved out through the membrane? Which substance(s) moved in through the membrane? Why did each substance move in the direction it did? By what process did the substances move across the membrane? Why did some substances fail to pass through the membrane? to move across the membrane? Why?

Solution

3. Which of the substances (starch, chloride ions, sulfate ions,
glucose, albumin, and water) were able to pass through the membrane
(in either direction)?

Chloride ions, sulfate ions, glucose and water can pass through the membrane in either direction due to their small size.

Starch and albumin will not able to pass through the membrane in either direction due to their large size.

4. Which substance(s) moved out through the membrane?

Here the glucose and chloride ion will try to pass through the membrane.

5. Which substance(s) moved in through the membrane?

The sulfate ions will try get inside the membrane to attain the equilibrium concentration

Diffusion is the process where the particles of a substance will move from high concentration to a region of low concentration.

At the start of the exercise, which solution (A or B) was hypertonic compared to that other which had the higher concentration of solutes) Which solution gaine
