One 8.3 ounce can of Red Bull contains energy in two forms:
27 grams of sugar and 80 milligrams of caffeine.

One 23.5 ounce can of Jolt Cola contains 94grams of sugar and 280 milligrams of caffeine.

Determine the number of cans of each drink that when combined will contain 403 grams sugar and 1200 milligrams caffeine.

Solution

Let x no. of Red bull cansand y no. of cans of Jolt Cola are required.

Sugar : 27x +94y = 403 ----(1)

caffenie : 80x +280y = 1200 ---(2)

Solve the two equations:

Multiply each equation by a number that will create opposite coefficients for x.

In this case we will multiply first equation by -80 and the second equation by 27.

After multiplying we have the following system:

2160x 7520y = 32240

2160x + 7560y = 32400

Add the two equations:

40y = 160 ----> y = 4

Substitute value of y to solve for x:

x = 1
