I am creating a pseudorandom number generator by using an arbitrarily long sequence of D-type flip-flops, in this case, 8 flip-flops, are arranged as a shift register. The flip-flops are interspersed with 2- input XOR gates whose inputs are randomly distributed among the Q and ~Q outputs of the circuit and whose outputs are randomly dispersed among the D-inputs of the flip-flops.

Question:

I need to decide when to clock the data. Should I clock it on the rising edge or the falling edge? Why?

Solution

If all the flipflops are triggered in the same way(either positive or negative ), it creates no difference as the psuedo random code generator is a synchronous counter. if it is an asynchronous counter then this problem arises. So don\'t bother about the triggering.

Thank you
