Opsonins ar any substance that bind to foreign particles and produce antibiotics in response to it and enhance phagocytosis. The whole process is known as opsonization. It helps the immune system in various way.

Molecules that serve like opsonins are Antibodies, complement system and circulating proteins.

Antibodies - This are the substances generated by the B cells in response to antigen. The Fab region of it binds to antigen where as Fc region binds to various phagocytic cells like neutrophils, NK cells etc. and enhance phagocytosi.

Complement System - This is a part of innate immunity system that inturn enhances or stimulates the antibodies and phagocytic cells. Such as C3b, C4b serve as opsonins.

Circulating proteins- Pentrataxins or pentaxins, collectins or collagen containing C type lectins are circulating proteins that act as opsonins.
