You get a call from a customer who has just bought a new computer with an LCD flat monitor. He is confused because the monitor came with two video cables, a VGA cable, and a cable with a connection that is depicted in the accompanying illustration. There are connections for both on the back of his new computer. What is the unknown connector?
A. It is a DVI-I (single link) connector.
B. It is a DVI-D (single link) connector.
C. It is a DVI-D (dual link) connector.
D. It is a DVI-A (analog) connector.
Solution
C. DVI, or Digital Visual Interface, is a video interface standard that is replacing VGA for flat-panel LCD computer displays. The DVI-D single link connector is used for only digital signals; however, other DVI connectors such as DVI-I can be used for integrated analog and digitals. While it is possible to connect a male DVI-D cable to a female DVI-I connector, a male DVI-I to female DVI-D connection is not possible due to pin incompatibility.
