You are the management team of a start-up company that will produce hard drives for the personal computer (PC) industry. You will sell your product to manufacturers of PCs (original equipment manufacturers [OEMs]). The disk drive market is characterized by rapid technological change, product life cycles of only 6 to 9 months, intense price competition, high fixed costs for manufacturing equipment, and substantial manufacturing economies of scale. Your customers, the OEMs, issue very demanding technological specifications that your product must comply with. They also pressure you to deliver your product on time so that it fits in within their company’s product introduction schedule.

Solution

Timely production I necessary to deliver the products manufactured within the deadlines issued by the customers as it is a very tight industry with tremendous amount of competition we should not lose our customers once they are ours. Quality adherence is also an important part of manufacturing. Implementation of quality and checking processes in which the product would be checked for adherence with the client specification so that only quality products reach the client to always keep him satisfied.

Reduction of human efforts means reduction of errors. As it is a technological driven industry we have to be on our toes to deliver best product in a timely manner. Assigning works to machines will reduce the human efforts and also will be time saving.

Different department for the new updates in the market or industry in regards to the technological change and changes in the client specifications, should be set up for smooth functioning of the organization.
