To choose any pump we need to know two basic values.

Dynamic energy losses of a water due mainly to friction against the walls of the pipe and the accessory viz. fittings, valves, elbows etc. in circuit

Maximum possible height between delivery port of the pump and the water outlet point

Height between the water level in the pump and the suction port of the pump

Geometrical height from water level in the sump to the most unfavourable water inlet point.

Geometrical Head = Delivery Head + Suction Head

Pressure required at the most unfavourable water inlet point.

It is sum of Suction head, delivery head and Residual Pressure and pressure drop
