Q1 Process Analysis with Multiple Flow Units Consider a proc

Q1.        (Process Analysis with Multiple Flow Units) Consider a process consisting of four resources that are operated ten hours a day. The process works on three different products A, B, C. Number of workers and processing times (in minutes) are given on the following table:

Number of Workers

Demand for the three products is as follows: product A, 50 units per day; product B, 40 units per day; and product C, 30 units per day.

a. Which resource is the bottleneck?

b. How much is the implied utilization of each resource? Is this a feasible operation?

c. Management has decided to reassign one worker from Resource 4 to Resource 1.Which resource is the new bottleneck? Is this operation feasible now?

this is my answer pleaae check it and do a,b and c.

Solution

Total workload = (Processing time of A* No of unit of A) +(Processing time of B* No of unit of B) + (Processing time of C* No.of Unit of C)

For Example , Resource 1, Total Workload = 5*50 + 9*40 +13*30 = 1000

(a) Resource 1 is the bottleneck because the resource with the highest implied utilization is the bottleneck.

(b) The Implied Utilization of each resources is shown in the above table. This is not the feasible operation because the implied utilization of resource 1 is more than 100% .

(c) Management has decided to reassign one worker from Resource 4 to Resource 1

Now in this case the resource 2 is the Bottleneck because it has highest implied utilization. Yes the operation is feasible because the implied utilization of each resource is less than 100%.

Available Time(min) {10*60} 600
Resource Number of worker Capacity (min) Total Workload (min) Implied Utilization ( Total Workload(min) / Capacity (min)
1 1 600 1000 166.67%
2 2 1200 1120 93.33%
3 3 1800 1240 68.89%
4 4 2400 1360 56.67%
