Aim: To test if cell proliferation is also responsive to different types of the substrate, 3T3 fibroblasts were plated on substrates of different types: Fibronectin, Bovine Serum Albumin and substrate-free.

Independent Variable: Substrate types including: Fibronectin and Bovine Serum Albumin

Dependent Variable: Cell proliferation/ Number of cells counted

Replicates: x4 for each substrate used, and x4 for the control

Solution

The cells grown in medium containing fibronectin as substrate promotes the proliferation of 3T3 fibroblasts. Cell proliferation was also observed in other two media containing bovine serum albumin in one medium and other medium is substrate free. The cell proliferation and number of cells produced in each of 3 media were observed and recorded. The experiment was carried out using x4 replicates for each substarte and as well for control set up. The proliferation of 3T3 fibroblasts was observed better in medium containing fibronectin than other medium containing bovine serum albumin. This is because, the cells using fibronectin substarte promote the cell contact and exhibit rapid proliferation and transporation. Bovine serum albumin is protein substance that promote cell growth rather than cell proliferation.
