An accumulator is used as the power source, whose volume is 4L. and the pressure of filled air in 3. 2MPa. The highest and lowest working pressures of this system are 8MPa and 5MPa respectively, how much is the discharge volume of the accumulator? (The working slate of the accumulator can lie viewed as an isothermal process.)

Solution

As the discharge process is isothermal P * V is a constant

V1 - V3 = 4 L

P1 * V1 = P3 * V3

3.2 * V1 = 8 * (V1 - 4)

V1 = 32 / 4.8   = 6.67 L

V3   = 2.67 L

3.2 * 6.67 = 5 * V2

V2 = 4.27 L

Discharge = V3 - V2 = 1.6 L
