Two loops lie in the same plane and have the same center. The larger carries a clockwise current and the smaller loop a counterclockwise current. Describe the force exerted by each loop on the other.

Solution

Assume coils in the y,z plane.

Clockwise current in the larger loop creates magnetic field in -x direction. force on the smaller loop will be in yz plane and perpendicular to the current . this results in force towards the centre of the loop. loop shrinks.

Anti click wise current in the smaller loop creates a B field in + direction. This creates a force on the outer coil towards its centre.

Both the loiops shrink towards centre.
