In California, each automobile license plate consists of a single digit followed by three letters, followed by three digits. How many distinct license plates can be formed if there are no restrictions on the digits or letters. Please solve and explain in VERY simple terms. I\'m not a math person
Solution
License plate has first a digit then followed by 3 letters
A digit can be any one of 0,1...9
and a letter can be any one of 26 alphabets
There are no restriction on the digits or letters
Hence no of ways a digit can be selected = 10
Each letter has 26 ways to be selected.
Thus no of distinct licence plates = 10(26)3
= 175760
