Distinguish between the locations and tissues of the periost
Distinguish between the locations and tissues of the periosteum and those of the the endosteum. What structural differenced did you note between compact bone and spongy bone?

  Solution
1. The periosteum is outside membrane of bone, whereas endosteum forms inner lining of the long bone. The periosteum is made up of dense irregular connective tissue, whereas endosteum is made up of reticular connective tissue.
2. Compact bone (cortical bone) has continuous matrix of osteons and has little space/gap whereas spongy bone (cancelleous bone) has large spaces/gap in between trabeculae (thin bony plates). Compact bone is outer layer of bone whereas spongy bone lies inner to compact bone.
