Explain how a small powerdrill is assembled

Solution

By powerdrill, I am assuming that you are speaking about electric powerdrill and not the hydraulic or penumatic powerdrill. To know the process of assembly of a powerdrill, we should know the components of a powerdrill first. A powerdrill consists of an AC brushed electric motor. It has a soft iron core wound up with copper wire which works as the armature. This is connected to a powersupply via the copper brushes. Surrounding it is the coils of copper which make up the field assembly. This generates the opposite pole for it to rotate. The motor is connected by spur gear to the drill chuck which clamps on the drill bit.

So, during assembly, we get the armature as one wound unit to which we attach the bearings. This assembly now gets the pinion gear. This set is now placed inside the field winding. This whole assembly is placed in the plastic housing provided. The chuck is now placed and meshed into the gear of the rotor. The other plastic housing is attached and screwed together.
