You are going to upgrade a customers computer from Windows V

You are going to upgrade a customer’s computer from Windows Vista to Windows 7 and are planning out your preupgrade tasks. Of the following, what should you do before running the upgrade? (Choose three.)

A. Back up the customer’s data.

B. Create an answer file.

C. Defragment the hard drive.

D. Remove unwanted Windows components.

Solution

A, C and D. Although the upgrade will probably go well, just in case it doesn’t, back up all of the user’s data to another storage device such as a USB drive to make sure nothing is lost. Defragment the hard drive to make sure all programs and files on the drive are in a contiguous state. As part of removing “clutter” on the hard drive, remove Windows components that are no longer useful or that won’t be useful with Windows 7. Use the Turn Windows Features On or Off task in Vista to open the Windows Features dialog box and then unselect the check boxes for the unwanted components.
