A static thrust stand is designed to test jet engines. In a typical test conducted following conditions are presented: (a) Intake velocity = 200 m/s (b) Exhaust gas velocity = 500 m/s (c) Intake cross sectional area = 1 m^2 (d) Intake static Pressure = 78.5 kPa(ab) (e) Intake static Temperature = 268 K (f) Exhaust static pressure = 101 kPa(ab). Evalute the Thrust developed by the engine.

Solution

>> As, Thrust Produced, P = m*(Ve - Vi)

where,

Ve = Exhaust Gas velocity = 500 m/s

and, Vi = Inlet Gas velocity = 200 m/s

So, Thrust Developed/Kg = 500 - 200 = 300 N/Kg
