Dirks explores follower trust in the leaderfollower relation
Dirks explores follower trust in the leader-follower relationship. He observes that follower trust in the leader appears to influence the level of team performance. Explain why follower trust is important, and how it influences team (group) performance.
Solution
In a leader-follower relationship there is a two way trust dynamics at play. Leaders or supervisors trust followers or sub ordinates who are responsible, efficient and productive. Gaining trust of leader is importnat for a follower.
Similarly, follower trust in the leader is an extremely important aspect of leader-follower relationship. If a subordinate or a follower does not trust his leader or supervisor, then the subordinate will not heed the leader, will not respect the leader\'s role in team building. This will lead to the the subordinate or the follower not working for the advancement of the group. In other words, it will be detrimental for the group performance.
On the other hand, if the follower has got faith and trust in the leader, then the followe will work towards achieving the goal as outlined by the leader. The follower will listen to the leader and follow his instructions. This will lead to enhancing team (group) performance.
