Find the following percentiles for the standard normal distr
Find the following percentiles for the standard normal distribution. Interpolate where appropriate. (Round your answers to two decimal places.) (a) 71st (b) 29th (c) 75th (d) 25th (e) 16th
Solution
a) 71 st percentile x is such that P(Z<x) = 0.71
x = 0.56
----------------------------------------------
b) 29th percentile is P(Z<X) =0.29
Hence x = -0.81
-----------------------------------
c) 75th percentile is 0.67.
---------------------------------
d) 25th percentile is -0.67
---------------------------------
e) 16th percentile =-0.41
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Note: Percentile upto 50 will have negative z value as area is to the left of y axis.
50th percentile will be the mean or x=0 for std normal distribution.
More than 50th percentile will lie on right side of y axis hence z /x value will be >0
