Determine algebraically whether fx Squareroot 7 x is onetoo

Determine algebraically whether f(x) = Squareroot 7 x is one-to-one function. b. Is the function graphed below one-to-one? Explain why or why not.

Solution

1) f(x) = sqrt(7x)

Prove that (a) = f(b) to prove function is 1 -to1

f(a) = sqrt(7a) ; f(b) = sqrt(7b)

sqrt(7a) = sqrt(7b)

squarung both sides : 7a = 7b

a = b

2) Do the vertical line test on the graph to prove 1- 1 function

It can be seen if we draw a vertical line anywher along the graph , it intersects the graph only once

It means function is 1 -1
